Component details:

CDJ400 CD player:

Drawing motivation from an increasing number of amateur DJs in Australia, Pioneer Electronics, the innovator of the CD turntable, announces a new addition to its family of Pro DJ CD turntables, the CDJ-400.

With a CDJ-400 connected to a computer through the USB terminal on the top panel, you can freely control Pioneer DJS and Serato Scratch Live DJ software. The various loop functons, large jog dial and the industry's first Scratch Jog Effect will broaden your DJ performance possibilities.

* World’s First Scratch Jog Effect
* High-quality sound scratching with USB Integration and MP3 Playback
* MIDI control via USB
* New illuminated jog wheel for convenient scratch play
* New Beat Loop Divide
* Hot Loop and Beat Loop
* Digital jog break, which uses a large jog dial to control effects freely

Geared up to inspire the next generation of digital artists, the Pioneer CDJ-400 offers the kind of versatility and ease of use required to ensure aspiring DJs can have greater control and flexibility with mixing digital music.

With Pioneer’s CDJ1000MK3 CD turntables globally regarded as the industry standard for the ‘professional DJ’, the CDJ-400 comes equipped with a sampling of features found in Pioneer’s CDJ series, such as MP3 playback, USB integration, MIDI support, scratching capability, the world’s first Scratch Jog Effects and a variety of looping functions.

Designed by DJs for DJs, the Pioneer CDJ-400 is ideal for the next generation of aspiring DJs wanting to develop their craft further.

With MP3 playback now starting to feature across Pioneer CDJ product range, the CDJ-400 allows you to play your MP3 collection off CD-R/RW discs as well as music from mass storage USB devices, such as USB keys, external hard drives and portable media devices.

In another world-debut for Pioneer’s Pro DJ division, DJs will experience the world’s first Scratch Jog Effects on the CDJ-400, with three creative scratch effects and an amazing new Loop Divide function.

Perfectly matched for the Pioneer DJM-400 mixer, virtually all of the button and slider functions on the CDJ-400 can send MIDI data via USB output, making it possible for the CDJ-400 to control DJ software and other applications, such as our DJS or Serato Scratch LIVE on a PC or MAC.

Things you can do with a CDJ-400:
1. Digital media playback
2. MIDI control via USB
3. New illuminated Jog Wheel
4. New Scratch Jog Effects
5. New Beat Loop Divide
6. Hot Loop and Beat Loop
7. Other key features

1. USB Integration and MP3 Playback
The CDJ-400’s cosmetic design is simple and compact yet elegant with all of its various controls and features located directly on top of the unit. A USB port found on the face of the player allows DJs to play their MP3 music collection from a wide variety of portable music devices such as thumb drives, MP3 players or external hard drives.

With the use of a multi-function selector knob/button and its large, bright, dot-matrix LCD display, locating and accessing of files from these types of music devices as well as MP3 music files on CD and CD-R/RW through the CD slot are done with a turn and press of the knob.

2. MIDI control via USB
As you'd expect, the CDJ-400 can control DJ and music application software. This is achieved by simply selecting the PC Source Select button, so that virtually all of the deck's buttons and slider can send MIDI control data via the PC USB connection.

So when MIDI is the message, the CDJ-400 definitely delivers. For example, a DJ can connect the CDJ-400 to a PC or MAC and play and manipulate files from their favourite DJ application software - such as Pioneer DJS or Serato Scratch - and this doesn’t even require a time-code disc to be used in the deck.

3. New illuminated Jog Wheel
With a design inspired by the club standard CDJ-1000 Jog Wheel comes the CDJ-400’s 115mm illuminated platter. You can choose from six different patterns of Jog Wheel illumination and even personalise your own CDJ ‘slip mats’ or jog sheets.

4. World’s First Scratch Jog Effect
A highlight and an advancement of the CDJ-400 is its scratching capability. In addition to traditional “vinyl” mode scratching, Pioneer implemented the world’s First Scratch Jog Effect. Three highlighted buttons, each assigned to a special effect, Bubble, Trans and Wah, creates unique scratching sound effects that can be enabled by the DJ on the fly. A “hold” button was also added to retain the different effects throughout the session or until its release, which can also be triggered at any point of play.

5. New Beat Loop Divide
Making the magic of live mash-up even more manageable, the new Beat Loop Divide facility rhythmically dices loops to fashion beats with drama, intrigue or whatever your desired effect. It is easily adjustable during loop playback, thereby creating loops with mind-melting, dance floor-destroying twists.

6. Hot Loop and Beat Loop
Besides the Beat Loop Divide, the CDJ-400 lets you create flawless four-beat Beat Loops and Hot Loops. For the latter hit the Hot Loop (In/Out point) buttons during a loop to retrigger the loop. Up to 10 Cue/Loop points per disc, for up to 920 discs, can be stored in memory and transferred by usb key between CDJ-400s.

DJM400 mixer

Although the smallest mixer in Pioneer's range, the DJM-400 packs a wide variety of effects for creative mixing. The effects, that automatically detect the BPM of the music and sync to the beats include: Delay, Echo, Filter, Flanger, Phaser, Robot and Roll, all of which are processed at 24bits for the highest quality sound. In addition, by using the newly-adopted Beat Select Button, the DJM-400 automatically sets the effect time linked to the BPM for more intuitive play and responsive remixing.

The intelligent 96kHz/24bit sampler automatically detects the tempo of a track during playback, sampling it for four beats, then loops the sample. As the sampled audio is in sync with the beat of the track being played (no matter the tempo) the DJ is given more time to be creative. Samples are automatically beat matched and up to five samples can be stored in memory.

Each of the DJM-400 's channels has a 3-band Kill EQ which ranges from +9dB to -8(infinity) for total control of the sound.

The DJM-400 has been designed with as a perfect partner for the MP3 compatible CDJ-200 both in terms of style and function. When combined, these units create a small, portable yet powerful and robust DJ setup that offers exceptional versatility and performance.

The DJM-400 has a wide range of features. Some of the additional highlights include:
